Project Officer – Disaster Risk Communication

Job Overview

The Project Officer – Disaster Risk Communication will lead community-based communication and engagement efforts as part of a regional project enhancing disaster early warning systems in Southeast Asia. The role will focus on risk behavior research, inclusive communications planning, and capacity-building in Thailand, Cambodia, and Lao PDR.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate field activities with partners and local stakeholders
  • Support qualitative research on disaster risk behavior with local universities
  • Facilitate community consultations, workshops, and capacity-building activities
  • Establish local crisis communication platforms with community, authorities, and media
  • Develop inclusive communication strategies with gender and disability focus
  • Represent UNDRR in meetings and coordination forums
  • Document lessons learned and produce knowledge-sharing materials
  • Promote visibility through stories, case studies, and social media
  • Travel regularly to project sites in Thailand, Cambodia, and Lao PDR
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualification

  • At least 3 years of experience in community-based projects or risk communication
  • Experience facilitating participatory workshops and trainings
  • Strong partnership skills with government, CSOs, and media
  • Proven ability to apply inclusive, gender-responsive approaches
  • Excellent communication, writing, and documentation skills
  • Computer literacy in MS OfficeDesirable:
  • Experience in disaster risk reduction or emergency communications
  • Background in working with international development or UN organizations
  • Regional experience in Southeast Asia
