Job Overview

Funded by the Republic of Korea under the “Assuring the Future of Forests with Integrated Risk Management (AFFIRM)” project (2023–2026), FAO seeks a Fire Suppression Training Consultant to deliver Training of Trainers (ToT) workshops in four countries: Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, and Viet Nam. This role involves developing a five-day ToT program, coaching new trainers, and conducting field-based fire suppression training in collaboration with local agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a five-day ToT course aligned with existing fire suppression training materials.
  • Deliver classroom and field-based ToT workshops in each country.
  • Coach and mentor trainees during on-the-job teaching practice.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA), National Project Coordinators (NPCs), and government partners to coordinate training logistics.
  • Work with translators to ensure effective local-language delivery.
  • Assist in setting up training classrooms and identifying suitable field exercise locations.
  • Prepare and submit post-training reports for each country.
  • Participate in progress update meetings with project leads.
  • Perform other fire suppression training-related duties as needed.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, or similar field OR more than 10 years’ experience as a trainer in national/international fire management.
  • 3–12 years of relevant experience depending on education level.
  • Proven experience in Training of Trainers programs.
  • Experience in fire suppression, especially in tropical environments.
  • Familiarity with government agencies and field-based training coordination.
  • Recent practical fire suppression experience (e.g., as a line firefighter).
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and mentoring skills.
