Job Overview

The Research Assistant will support participatory research, community engagement, data collection, and reporting for a project focused on strengthening governance and inclusivity in community-based mangrove management in southern Thailand. The role involves frequent travel to project sites in Ranong, Krabi, Phang Nga, and Trang provinces.

Responsibilities

  • Design and assist in testing community assessment tools.
  • Conduct surveys, interviews, focus groups, and participatory mapping.
  • Collect and verify secondary data (e.g., demographics, forest cover).
  • Facilitate community meetings to ensure inclusive participation.
  • Support knowledge-sharing sessions and validation of research findings.
  • Manage and organize collected data using digital tools.
  • Translate field notes and documents between Thai and English.
  • Prepare community profiles and contribute to reports.
  • Coordinate logistics for field visits, workshops, and meetings.
  • Maintain organized records of fieldwork and project materials.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Project Coordinator.

Qualification

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in field research/community engagement.
  • Knowledge of participatory research and community forest governance in Thailand.
  • Strong communication skills in Thai.
  • Good facilitation and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel and stay in field locations for extended periods.
  • Thai nationality.

Desirable:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in coastal or mangrove forest areas.
  • Knowledge of gender equality and social inclusion in research.
  • GIS skills for spatial data analysis/mapping.
  • Working knowledge of English.
