Job Overview

UN Women seeks a qualified Counsellor to provide psychosocial and emotional support to staff and program participants affected by Myanmar’s protracted crisis. The consultant will deliver confidential counselling sessions, immediate psychological first aid, and coping strategies while upholding ethical standards. The role also includes facilitating mental health awareness sessions and supporting resilience among vulnerable groups.

Responsibilities

  • Provide confidential one-on-one counselling sessions (online or in-person).
  • Deliver psychological first aid, active listening, and coping strategies.
  • Conduct information sessions on mental health, psychosocial support, and secondary trauma.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics.
  • Submit brief reports summarizing sessions and urgent issues.

Qualification

  • Master’s degree in psychology, counselling, social work, mental health, or related field (Bachelor’s with extra experience accepted).
  • At least 7 years’ experience in counselling or psychosocial support in humanitarian/crisis contexts.
  • Experience supporting women affected by conflict, trauma, or displacement (highly desirable).
  • Experience delivering training/capacity building in counselling or psychosocial support (asset).
  • Experience working with UN agencies, INGOs, or NGOs (asset).
  • Certification/accreditation as a counsellor or psychologist (asset).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and trauma-informed counselling skills.
