Human Rights Research Associate

Job Overview

The Human Rights Research Associate will support OHCHR's Myanmar Team based in Bangkok. The role focuses on human rights monitoring, data analysis, report writing, advocacy, and capacity-building efforts concerning the Myanmar crisis. This position involves close collaboration with human rights officers, potential field missions, and daily interaction with the team.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor human rights situations via media, social media, and civil society engagement
  • Maintain thematic databases to analyze trends and provide early warnings
  • Draft internal and external reports, briefing notes, and advocacy materials
  • Support data gathering and ensure safe, confidential storage
  • Assist in developing training materials and participating in capacity-building events
  • Contribute to public advocacy efforts and UN system briefings
  • Uphold confidentiality and the "do no harm" principle

Qualification

  • Korean national aged 22–29 at time of application
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields (e.g., law, human rights, international relations)
  • Strong interest in promoting human rights and working on Myanmar-related issues
  • Skills in report writing, media monitoring, data analysis, and working in multicultural teams
  • Experience in legal research, advocacy, or engagement with civil society (preferred)
  • Tech and social media awareness

  • Only Korean nationals are eligible
  • Candidates who have previously served as UN Youth Volunteers (Korean-funded) are ineligible
  • The assignment is for 12 months with a possibility of extension
  • Living in Bangkok offers access to quality healthcare, transportation, and housing, but may include traffic and seasonal flooding challenges
  • Myanmar-related assignments require strong cultural awareness and emotional resilience due to the human rights context
