Job Overview

CAP is seeking a full-time Legal Advisor to support asylum seekers and refugees through the Refugee Status Determination (RSD) process and explore durable legal solutions. The role involves direct legal support, client advocacy, and collaboration with partner organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on UNHCR’s RSD and durable solutions processes
  • Conduct legal screenings and eligibility assessments
  • Draft client testimonies and legal submissions
  • Collect and review supporting evidence
  • Conduct country of origin research (COI)
  • Prepare clients for interviews and provide post-interview support
  • Observe RSD interviews
  • Assist with UNHCR’s durable solutions such as resettlement and voluntary repatriation
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case files and legal records
  • Monitor legal and policy developments impacting refugees
  • Coordinate with UNHCR, NGOs, and government bodies to support client cases
  • Participate in case reviews and legal strategy sessions

Qualification

  • Law degree (required)
  • Experience working with asylum seekers
  • Strong knowledge of international refugee and human rights law
  • Familiarity with UNHCR procedures and protections for displaced persons
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex legal issues in a client-friendly way
  • Strong case management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in digital case management systems (Microsoft platform preferred)
  • High professionalism and discretion in handling sensitive information
