Student Well-being Officer

Job Overview

The Student Well-being Officer will provide one-on-one and small group counseling to support students’ emotional, mental, and social well-being. The role focuses on helping students build self-awareness, resilience, and self-esteem, while addressing challenges such as stress, trauma, and interpersonal issues. Working closely with program staff, the officer ensures students receive compassionate care and access to resources that promote both academic and personal success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counseling sessions to support students’ emotional and mental health.
  • Guide students in developing self-awareness and coping strategies.
  • Support students in building self-esteem and resilience.
  • Address issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and interpersonal conflicts.
  • Maintain confidential, trusting relationships with students.
  • Collaborate with program staff to identify students in need of counseling.
  • Organize or assist in well-being workshops and awareness sessions.
  • Create and manage a counseling schedule aligned with school programs.
  • Keep clear and confidential session records.
  • Refer students to external professionals when necessary.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Experience working with youth or vulnerable populations, preferably in migrant or cross-cultural settings.
  • Knowledge of mental health, child protection, and trauma-informed approaches (preferred).
  • Strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and build trust.
  • Language skills in Burmese, Karen, and English are an advantage.
